An immersion in Spanish through the world of wine and its key players in Mallorca

Spanish for wine seekers

September is still time of harvest and the vineyards bustle with activity. This Programme is for wine seekers or for those who love our wine culture. A beautiful scenery to practise Spanish during this special Immersion language experience

Why Spanish for wine seekers?

Wine also has its language, as does the land. And we could say that the land speaks through wine. We can interpret a wine by tasting it, but it is also interesting to know its creators and the place where it is made. And if you are also interested in learning or improving your Spanish, it is a fantastic combination for practising around a subject that interests you.

Wine lovers know that they can find many differences in wine from the same winery each year. They know that many factors depend on the quality of the wine, in addition to know-how, technique, knowledge, decisions at a given moment, and the love that goes into it. Small wineries are usually more interesting than large wine producers because there is usually a passion that pushes them to continue despite the difficulties and more personal work.

I invite you for a week not only to learn or enhance your Spanish but to know better and enjoy the culture of wine in some of my favourite places in Mallorca during this special language immersion experience.

A typical day

Every day, we will have a fun session of 90 minutes minimum to practise Spanish before starting our route. We will practise different topics and how to talk about wine in general, trying to hold a conversation about it, but also about other things: life, our interests, etc.

Monday: Arrival. Welcome with coffee or tea and some breakfast (only with stay).
This is the preparation day, so we will have an initial session to get to know each other, ask questions, practice the essentials, and get ready for our adventure over the next few days. Duration: about 2 hours.
Free time for the rest of the day to chill, disconnect, familiarise ourselves with the beautiful area where we are located, and visit some of our charming spots. We will see each other late in the evening for dinner.

Tuesday: Breakfast (only with stay), and morning practice.

Late afternoon: Sensory wine tasting. The wine to taste and the wine culture become our common thread to practice different aspects of both, Spanish language and culture. Over the tasting, we describe and talk about both perceptions and sensations. We learn and develop our vocabulary, and little by little, we lose our fear of speaking in a group.

Evening: following our wine tasting, we will enjoy a Mediterranean dinner with local food.

After our initial tasting, we are more prepared to hit the road and visit some of the small but genuine and interesting local wineries during the week. Every day, we will take a different route.

Wednesday: Breakfast (only with stay), and early morning practice.

Visit a local cellar and wine tasting. Wine tasting always includes sampling local products. We go on with our practice... We prepared questions to learn about the cellar and the people who work and care for the wine.

Evening: homemade dinner with local food

Thursday: Breakfast (only with stay), and early morning practice.

We will go to a local market to find, among other things, some interesting wine shops and where to enjoy a wine tasting and something else... Remember, we, Spanish people, never drink without our classic and delicious tapas.

After what you have learnt over the last few days, in the wine shop, you will choose between a couple of wines to taste at home on Friday, before our barbecue.

Friday: Breakfast (only with stay), and morning practice.

Visit to a different local cellar. We will be prepared to ask questions about the history of the place and the wine they produce. As well as for a new tasting session.

Evening: barbecue. September is great for having dinner outside!

Saturday: free. There are nice markets to visit and places where taste nice food, or just enjoy the last day around and practise what you have learnt during the week.

Sunday: Departure in the morning.

This Spanish Immersion of around 30 hours minimum is developed from Monday to Friday, Saturday is for you, but I can order a delicious paella for a great ending of this special week.

Groups
The number of people who can participate in this unique experience is 6.
If you are wondering why the number is higher in this case than in other programmes, it is also because of the unique nature of this one. We will focus especially on wine culture and gastronomy, and we will try to learn as much as possible about this exciting world of oenology, without any professional aspirations, of course. In this case, a group greatly enriches the experience. On the other hand, it opens the door to meeting people with similar interests and a desire to learn Spanish. These groups always work well, and fun is guaranteed.
