October, month of Fairs and Markets of Gastronomy & Wine in Mallorca

October is the month of Fairs and Markets of Gastronomy and Wine in Mallorca. Many villages hold fairs dedicated exclusively to local products during the weekends. The origin of these fairs is very old. Autumn is traditionally the month of harvests and slaughtering, so the local fairs have always been the meeting point between merchants, traders, and consumers.
Many of these fairs are dedicated to specific typical products, for example, sausages, cheeses, sweets, some types of fish and, of course, wines from the different Denominaciones de Origen. And, it is still a warm season so perfect to dive into the local culture and connect better with the land and the people.

Local Gastronomic Market as a celebration

In this setting, it is possible to carry out many activities linked to gastronomy, but also simply to enjoy the atmosphere of the markets, which include other types of events such as traditional folklore, dance, and music. The markets have now become small celebrations of a day or two for each of the towns that organise them.

Santanyí, Campos, or Felanitx are only some examples where is possible to enjoy this type of market, all of them in the South-East of Mallorca, and each one is dedicated to a specific product. Read more in Spanish about the markets here

How to make a real leap during your Spanish Immersion Programme

Choose a week or two, depending on your goal and level, to do an authentic Spanish Immersion Programme with a qualified, experienced, and native teacher (that's me!) 

Choose between 20 hours a week, so at least 4 hours a day (that is the minimum), or 30 hours per week. This can vary a little depending on the day. But we will do the total hours.

Take the opportunity to stay with your Spanish teacher in her wonderful traditional Mallorcan home during your stay. This way, you will also learn in a natural context and live the language continuously.

Enjoy your immersion in the culture and language during your stay and take every chance to talk and learn. Remember that you learn more from your mistakes.

Follow the programme according to our objectives of improving and learning the language in different contexts, including the formal one, from a communicative approach.

These Programmes are from Monday to Friday. You would need to stay from Monday to Saturday morning to accomplish the total hours and the purpose. 

Some of the activities I propose

These activities are a guideline because also it will depend on the dates, but most of them are not subject to a calendar. Here are some of them:

   Enjoying the unique landscape of this part of Mallorca in autumn, the temperature and the calm that follows the summer is fantastic. That is why many outdoor sports enthusiasts choose Mallorca. You will love it. Do you like to cycle, run, or swim or... Then, this is your place.

   Experiencing the slow life. My place is perfect to chill and practise Spanish in a very comfortable way, the village is small so it is easy to talk to local people. The surroundings are splendid for doing different things. Even if you are a nature lover you will find protected areas like wetlands or natural parks along the coast.

   Visiting some of the most charming villages in the area and even taking a trip to the old town of Palma. 

   Enjoying the local gastronomy and a good wine is always a good idea. You already know that there are new seasonal menus and that it is the gastronomic market season. Don't miss the opportunity.

What is included in the price?

The price will depend on the number of people, this Programme can be only for one person or also for two, and the duration of the Programme. You can choose one or two weeks and take 20 or 30 hours in total.

The house is a beautiful and traditional place on the outskirts of Ses Salines, in the south of Mallorca, next to Santanyí, with a garden and a pool. The room is very spacious with a king-size bed, that it is possible to separate, and a big bathroom ensuite. It has also a dressing room.
